Introducing the new C63 Sealander Chronograph

Christopher Ward expands the Sealander collection with their first mechanical chronograph since 2020.

Christopher Ward today introduces the new Sealander Chronograph – the first expansion of its newly re-engineered everyday sports collection, and the brand’s first main range mechanical chronograph in six years.

The new model shares the recently refined Sealander collection’s focus on comfort, considered design and sporting performance, adding a 12-hour timing function within a new 41mm Light-catcher™ case. It features a multi-layered, multi-textured dial design, ceramic tachymeter bezel, Sellita SW510 automatic movement and 100m of water resistance.

“We’ve always been lovers of mechanical chronographs,” says Jörg Bader, Product Director at Christopher Ward. “The C9 Single Pusher Chronograph from 2012 and ceramic C1000 Typhoon from 2013, for example, remain particularly coveted by members of the Christopher Ward Forum. But that passion hasn’t always translated into broader commercial performance, which is why chronographs haven’t featured in our main range for a number of years. Since 2020, we’ve developed numerous prototypes, but none met the high standards of innovation and execution we set for any new product we bring to market. The new design language of Sealander has allowed us to approach the complication differently: retaining the character enthusiasts love, while making it approachable and accessible to a broader audience.”

The new 41mm Light-catcher™ case features polished chamfers across each lug, alongside the conical screw-down crown first introduced with the new Sealander Automatic and GMT. Long, ergonomic chronograph pushers take the form of brushed cuboids with polished chamfers along each exposed edge. Both the start/stop and reset pushers offer precise and satisfying action through 1.7mm of travel.

The multi-part dial combines a polished lacquer with recessed black subdials featuring a heavily grained texture. Raised, polished numerals sit within the subdials and a sleek, polished chamfer transitions from their edges into the base dial.

The layout places running seconds at nine o’clock, elapsed hours at six and elapsed minutes at three. Slim, but highly legible polished Sealander hands complement the indices, with the hour and minute hands filled with Super-LumiNova® Grade X1 BL C1 for cool-blue illumination after dark.

The new Chronograph also adopts the colour palette established by the new Sealander collection, with Black, White, Sky Blue, Pink and Pistachio options, all paired with black subdials.

“Colourful sports chronographs often lean towards very vivid, race-inspired hues,” says Christopher Ward’s COO Sarah Baumann. “With the Sealander Chronograph, we saw an opportunity to take a different approach. The new Sealander palette has already proven itself, giving us a range of colours with a softer saturation that allows the watch to express personality without becoming difficult to wear or style every day.”

A gently angled, matt black ceramic bezel with white markings surrounds the dial, incorporating a tachymeter scale primarily used to calculate average speed over a known distance. A polished facet surrounding the edge of the ceramic insert adds a contrasting detail between the matt bezel and brushed lugs.

Powering the Sealander Chronograph is a no-date variant of Sellita’s SW510 automatic chronograph movement. Sharing its basic architecture with the legendary Valjoux 7750, the cam-actuated calibre offers up to 62 hours of power reserve, a 4Hz beat rate and a daily timing tolerance of -5/+12 seconds. It is presented in Elaboré grade and fitted with a new, semi-skeletonised custom rotor.

The Sealander Chronograph becomes the third launch to feature iLink™, the tool-free bracelet system introduced with the new Sealander collection earlier this year. Removable links use a discreet push-button to release the outermost link from its securing pin, allowing additional links to be removed without tools before clicking back into place.

The Sealander Chronograph is available from £1,895/$2,625/€2,475 on the integrated rubber strap, in four colours, White, Black, Blue, and Orange, with deployant Bader buckle, and £1,995/$2,765/€2,605 on the Bader bracelet featuring iLink™.
